Pros and cons of involving employees in decision making process

 

Some employers involve the employees in decision making process for products and services. What are the advantages and disadvantages?

It is an irrefutable fact that involving employees in decision making, in this contemporary world, is becoming an integral part of the employers and organisations. Considering this, this essay will examine the pros and cons associated with involving the employees in decision making process while launching new products and services.

There are numerous advantages of having employees’ inputs while introducing new products and services. First and foremost, having a diverse range of ideas could be a substantial benefit to be considered. It is generally seen that involving employees in the decision-making process would lead to enforcement of not only wide range of ideas but also better innovation because of brainstorming activities among themselves. For example, a recent article in The Age revealed that 80% of the people agree with the aforementioned benefit. Furthermore, providing them with a sense of ownership could be another noteworthy benefit to be taken in to account.

Despite the advantages discussed above regarding involving the employees in decision making process for products and services, there is a disadvantage as well, which could not be neglected without any careful consideration. Compromising the confidentiality could be the single most detrimental impact. It may be defined as involving employees in the decision-making process would not only expose confidential information, but it may also lead to the leakage of information to competitors.

In the end, although involving the employees in decision making process for products and services has many advantages, the negative aspect of this trend needs careful addressing.
